GED Update

Well the hubby finally got to the point where he was done studying and ready to test. So he went and took
the practice GED test.
                                         AKA
                                                        The TABE test.
Its a test the school offers at $15 so you can see where you stand. A good pretest from the actual testing place. He did pretty good, although he still needs to study just a couple more things. I believe he was proud of him self.

They don't start doing the GED testing until August 22nd so he has plenty of time to study.

Well until next time happy military life preparing.

GED Study Book

So we received the GED study book we ordered from the library. (I just love how you can order books offline and get them delivered to your house.) Let me tell you this book is huge. Its about 3 inches thick and the pages feel like a newspaper type of paper so they are thin. That's a lot of reading to do. I handed it to him and said "here's the GED book you wanted now start reading" he just looked and me and was um I'm not reading that whole thing. Then he went on about how he doesn't need to study for the GED he knows the stuff already.

That book was pretty intimating. So intimidating that he was actually working when it came. But being the silly wife I am I just had to text him a picture of the book. You know to get him all ramped up and ready to read :D. C'mon who doesn't enjoy studying all day.

P.S. Its still sitting on his end table just waiting for him to crack the cover. Its been sitting there for about 2 days now.

Fingers crossed though. I know this book will help better prepare him. And I'm sure he know all the stuff still from high school but a little refresher will just help it flow more smoothly and prevent a "testing brain lock up".

But for now good luck to all those PRE Army Wives out there mentally preparing for the Army Life.

Why a Pre Army Wife?

So if you read the title of my blog your probably wondering "what the heck is a Pre Army Wife". My husband doesn't currently have a high school diploma. To join the Army you need a high school diploma, or a GED or General Equivelency Diploma with 15 college credits. Some times they have a small opening for just GED with no college credits or thay can get a waiver. Or so I've read and heard.

As of right now my hubby holds none of the above. He was that senior in school who was one credit shy of graduating and decided not to continue another year just for that one credit. But anyways during the past 2 weeks I have been searching web pages for GED practice tests. In no way do we want to pay $70 for him to take the test miss one section and be out that money. Here where we are located they allow you to pay $14 to retake each section you miss.

Lets say you miss 3 sections. That's $42 on top of the $70 you just paid. So you just spent $112 to get your diploma. Ridiculous right.

Along the way I've come across some really good practice GED tests for all subjects. They even include study guides for certain areas that you missed in the math. How awesome is that.

The test parts to the GED are as follows

  • Language Arts, Reading
  • Language Arts, Writing
  • Mathematicas
  • Science
  • Social Studies
The test is averaged to take about 7 hours. Thats a long test.

That information was found here.

But we decided it was better for him to study first since he's been out of school for 4 years. We all know its true what they say "if you don't use it you lose it". And half the stuff you learn you never really use anywys. Who cares about (7x + 3y) not me.

So until he takes the test and gets his GED and signs the contract with the Army Im a PRE Army Wife.

Starting a New Chapter in my Life

So my husband has made the decision to join the Army. Its something that he's wanted to do for a long time. As with most wife's that have a husband with this type of dream we hope it will pass. But it's been six years and he's still on this mission, and finally made the leap and talked to a recruiter. Since he isn't in the army yet I'd like to consider myself a "Pre Army Wife". This is that time in your life where your going to read every book and browse every web page that has ever been written by or for Military spouses. This blog will be the keeper of my journey until I make the transition into a full blown Army Wife. Which then I plan to reinvent my blog and tweak the name.

So let the journey begin....
